Polished concrete is concrete that has been processed through a series of steps. This includes the use of a concrete densifier or hardener which penetrates into the concrete and creates a chemical reaction to help harden and dust proof the surface. There is a minimum of 6 grinding steps involved in creating the completed polished concrete surface.
Polished Concrete is a "Green" and hypoallergenic flooring system. Concrete is a sustainable building material which decreases our ecological footprint. It acts as a high thermal mass which absorbs, stores and releases energy, therefore making this product very energy efficient in heating and cooling your home or business.
A polished concrete surface prevents mould, dust and microbe build up which makes this flooring system ideal for households where people suffer from allergies, asthma and other immune diseases.
Finish Options
Burnished:
Nil exposure
Fully polished using a mechanical trowel to remove minimal surface, leaving you with a natural concrete colour and no exposed aggregate.
“Salt and Pepper”:
Minimal exposure
Light removal of concrete surface exposing minimal aggregate creating a “salt and pepper” look.
Full Polish:
Full exposure of aggregate.
Different Polishing Techniques
Full Polish:
Requires minimum of 6 grinding steps. Your choice of finish will determine the number of steps required.
Full polished being the maximum steps.
Full polished has a penetrative sealer and requires minimal maintenance.
Grind and Seal:
This is a more economic option as you do not require all the polished steps. However this technique requires ongoing sealer maintenance as the sealer acts as a top layer.
Existing floors:
Old concrete floors can be ground and polished exposing existing aggregate.
Sealers:
There are numerous sealing options available.
A suitable sealer will be recommended by your concreter.
Aggregate:
The aggregate in concrete turns dark (black) during the grinding process. You can leave this as is, or see it as a blank canvas creating your own artwork. Different coloured stones/glass/metal can be added to personalise your floor or bench top.
Colour:
Colour stain can be added to concrete to create a unique base colour.
We are an Inverell based business which services the NSW Northern Tablelands.
Our journey began when we designed and built our own house with the aim to create a custom made "green" home that was easy to maintain.
Styling our home using polished concrete flooring and bench tops was an easy decision - it's durable, affordable and is an allergy free surface which was perfect for our family.
